Chicken and egg prices are likely to rise as India unlocks

Lockdown has contributed to low sales of chicken and eggs. During lockdown , chicken and egg shops were allowed to operate for 4 hours in a day. Small window of operation led to decline in sales of chicken and eggs.

As India unlocks, longer operational hours for chicken and egg shops will help boost the sales. Because of increased demand, prices of chicken and eggs are likely to rise in coming days.

Last year during lockdown, Poultry industry faced heavy losses. Due to lack of clarity regarding rules , many farmers didn’t get feed supplies in time. But fortunately this time during lockdown things were better manged in comparison to last year. In the beginning of lockdown there was panic , keeping in mind last year’s mismanagement. So there was heavy price drop but later prices got stabilised. Closure of hotels and restaurants also contributed decline in chicken and eggs consumption.

Industry is now looking forward for better prices as consumption is going to increase due to ease in lockdown restrictions. Industry is expecting to reach the demand of chicken and eggs to near normal. As there is production dip due to reduction in Poultry population so that will further contribute to increase in prices.

Increase in prices will bring the air of relief amongst the farmers as feed cost has also gone up due to increase in prices of grains.
